North Korea Warns U.S. Over Taiwan Arms, Backs Russia

North Korea has condemned U.S. military support for Taiwan and warned Washington against deepening confrontation with China, as Pyongyang simultaneously reaffirmed its support for Russia.
A commentary carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency criticized U.S. arms sales and military backing for Taiwan after the island received the first aircraft from a long-delayed order of U.S.-made F-16V fighters. Pyongyang argued that the transfers are increasing tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
The statement places North Korea squarely behind Beijing’s position on Taiwan. Kim Jong Un told Chinese President Xi Jinping at a June summit that Pyongyang supports the One China principle, part of a broader effort by North Korea, China and Russia to deepen coordination amid escalating pressure from Washington and its allies.
In a separate message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kim said North Korea would continue working closely with Moscow and expressed confidence in Russia’s victory. North Korea has already developed a far deeper military relationship with Russia under the mutual defense pact the two governments signed in 2024.
Taken together, the messages show Pyongyang treating the Taiwan Strait and Russia’s war as linked fronts in a wider confrontation over U.S. military power in Eurasia. Washington’s growing security ties in East Asia are being met by an increasingly explicit political and military alignment among its regional adversaries.
