Pyongyang, DPRK — North Korea’s state media warned Tuesday that the country would consider nuclear retaliation if Israel attempted to harm Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

The warning, first carried by Pyongyang Radio and repeated on Korean Central Television (KCTV), described Thunberg as a “voice of conscience” for her outspoken criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

According to the broadcasts, senior government officials said that any attack on Thunberg would be treated as a “grave provocation” and could trigger a response “against the heart of the Zionist regime.”

Analysts noted that while North Korea frequently issues sharp rhetoric against Israel and the United States, the linkage of its nuclear posture to the safety of a Western activist is unusual and signals an effort to broaden its image as a defender of anti-imperialist voices worldwide.
