“Stalin killed more people than Hitler.”
“Communism starves everyone.”
“The USSR was one big prison.”
And where did you hear this? Not from Soviet archives. You heard it from Cold War propaganda, CIA-funded academics, and a Hollywood that cries over breadlines but never the Congo. Let’s get real. Let’s get historical. Let’s kill these myths with facts.
💀 MYTH #1: “Stalin killed 20 million people”
False. Fabricated. Recycled Nazi gossip.
The “20 million” number comes from émigré gossip and CIA disinfo, then dressed up by “historians” like Robert Conquest—who worked for MI6.When real Soviet records were declassified, the actual number of political executions during Stalin’s rule was around 700,000. Not 20 million. Way less than the capitalist wars and colonial massacres.
🌾 MYTH #2: “The USSR starved Ukraine on purpose”
Here we go: The Holodomor. The favorite weapon of nationalist revisionists.
Was there famine? Yes. Was it caused by a deliberate policy of genocide? No. Kulaks—rich peasants—burned crops, slaughtered livestock, and sabotaged grain quotas to resist collectivization. They would rather destroy food than share it. Add poor harvests and sabotage, and yes, people died. But it wasn’t “Stalin’s plan”—it was a war between feudal privilege and the future. Unlike the West, the USSR actually rebuilt. It never abandoned the countryside.
🏗 MYTH #3: “Communism doesn’t work”
Let’s test that.
In 1917, Russia was illiterate, agrarian, and starving. By the 1950s? It had full literacy, universal housing, electrification, the best math and science education in the world——and by 1961, it put the first human in space.
Meanwhile, capitalist Russia in the 1990s, after “shock therapy”?
Mass poverty. Oligarchs. Orphans. Suicides.
Life expectancy dropped 10 years in a decade.
Communism didn’t fail.
It was assassinated.
✊ MYTH #4: “The USSR was just another empire”
That’s rich—coming from the U.S., UK, and France.
The USSR didn’t loot. It built.Central Asia got power plants, schools, hospitals. The Baltics got massive industrial upgrades. It was multinational and anti-colonial—unlike the West, which was literally still enslaving and bombing people.
🚨 So why all the lies?
Because if people knew the USSR beat fascism, industrialized in 20 years, and gave dignity to workers…They’d start asking questions.
Questions like:
“Why is homelessness normal in the richest capitalist countries?”“Why are basic needs still commodified?”“What if there is an alternative?”
That’s what scares the ruling class. That’s why they slander the USSR.
The USSR wasn’t perfect. It was revolutionary. And if the worst thing you can say about it is that it didn’t bow to rich peasants, capitalists, or monarchs—then maybe that says more about you than about history.
